Wow! I am working on reviewing, editing, revising, and writing a multiplication unit for SAP (Student Achievement Partners) in NYC! I'm working with amazing teacher leaders from all over the country to write a new unit, free and usable for teachers. The field test will be coming soon!
We also got to hear from Jason Zimba, the lead author of the Math CCSS. I wish everyone could hear from him as it would be very clear why the CCSS is so important. My biggest take away was his two questions for math content:
1. What does _____ mean?
2. What does _____ equal?
Example:
7 x 5=___
1. What does 7 x 5 = ___ mean? It means the number of things in 7 groups of 5 thing.
2. What does 7 x 5 = ___ equal? It equals 35 things.
